Monday 25 – Tuesday 26 June, Advanced Obstetric Ultrasound - A problem-based approach

Overview

This course offers a comprehensive review of the diagnosis, management and counselling for fetal
anomaly and will be of benefit to all involved with antenatal fetal ultrasound. There will be pre-course
material provided to allow for greater interactive learning on the day. Case-based discussions will be used
to review advanced ultrasound techniques and common clinical dilemmas, as well as rare conditions.
There will also be interactive quizzes to review learning outcomes. The course is suitable for consultants
with an interest in antenatal ultrasound.

Wednesday 27 June, Advanced Antenatal Care - A problem-based approach

Overview

This course covers the clinical challenges and dilemmas commonly faced in late pregnancy. The course
will cover many of the aspects which make managing high-risk pregnancy challenging. This includes fetal
conditions, such as severe growth restriction, suspected intrauterine infection or twin to twin transfusion
syndrome and maternal conditions such as obesity, psychiatric illness or pre-eclampsia. Achieving a safe
balance between inpatient care and outpatient monitoring will be reviewed and interactive quizzes
will monitor learning outcomes. The course is suitable for all Consultants with an interest in high-risk
pregnancy. There will be pre-course material provided in order to make the most of the problem-based
programme.
The Advanced Obstetric Ultrasound and Advanced Antenatal Care course is suitable for consultants
with an interest in antenatal ultrasound as well as those training in Fetal Medicine as a subspecialty or for
the ‘Fetal Medicine’ or the ‘Advanced Antenatal Practice’ Advanced Training Skills Modules (ATSMs). This
course is valid for three years, and must be completed prior to completion of the practical component of
the ATSMs. It also supports the obstetric RCOG intermediate ultrasound modules.
