RCOG hosts Anthony Nolan clinic - Today - Monday 27 September 2010, 11am - 3pm

Anthony Nolan finds matching donors for leukaemia patients who need a lifesaving stem cell transplant (also known as a bone marrow transplant).  But for every person the charity can help, there’s another for whom no match can be found.  That’s why they urgently need more people to join the Anthony Nolan Register, so they can save more lives.

Just 30% of people who need a transplant will be lucky enough to find a matching donor from within their families, most likely a sibling.  So for the vast majority of the 16,000 people worldwide who need a transplant, a transplant from a stranger is usually their last chance of survival.

Joining the register is easy and anyone aged between 18 and 40, who weighs over 8 stone and is in general good health, is urged to come along between 11am and 3pm on Monday 27th September.  The clinic will be held at the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, 27 Sussex Place, Regent’s Park, London NW1 4RG.

We’ll ask you to complete a medical questionnaire so we can check you’re eligible, then we’ll ask for a small saliva sample.  Please don’t eat, chew, drink or smoke for 30 minutes before giving the sample.

For more information about joining the register or the donation process, visit www.anthonynolan.org or call 0303 303 0303.  For any queries relating to the clinic on suggestions for promoting the event further please email Belinda Grantham-Hill bgrantham-hill@rcog.org.uk
