Academic Trainees' Area

Network of Academic Trainees

To generate interest in academic O & G and to support those already in training we have set up an academic trainees network with the following aims:

  1. to improve communication amongst academics and academic trainees
  2. to arrange regular meetings for academic trainees
  3. to find out more information about the state of academic O & G
  4. to improve the career path of academic trainees

Progress so far:

  • We surveyed all academic O & G trainees in the UK, both research fellows and clinical lecturers, to find out their views on academic training.
  • We presented the results to the academic committee at the RCOG and to the Association of Professors in Obstetrics & Gynaecology
  • We have helped to create an academic section on the RCOG website with pages dedicated to academic trainees.
  • We publicise upcoming meetings relevant to academic obstetricians and gynaecologists such as the Blair Bell research society.
  • We present the views of academic trainees to the Academic Committee of the RCOG and inform trainees of progress via regular newsletters.

If you would like more information or to join the Network please send your details (name, email address, place of work) to Bettina Muller (bmuller@rcog.org.uk)

Academic Trainees' Survey

A postal survey was undertaken of all academic trainees registered on RCOG academic database in December 2009. Non-responders were sent two ‘reminders’ in January 2010.

A summary of the results is reported here.
