National Workforce Projects has funded a project which will be undertaken jointly by the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health. The project will evaluate the impact of implementing the 2009 Working Time Directive on maternity and children's services in England and will define examples of good practice. The working hours of doctors in training was significantly restricted after 1 August 2004. This has major implications for service provision and for training.
