Supporting SAS doctors

RCOG National Lead for SAS doctors

Dr Currie’s post of RCOG National Lead for SAS doctors is now in its final year.

This new appointment has been challenging and extremely fulfilling. With the support of Council, and Ric Warren in particular, much has been achieved and yet much is still to do. The post is essential in providing a voice and representation at the College, and in sharing concerns and offering advice and support.

SAS posts are an essential part of the workforce in any hospital and while we provide reliable, experienced, consistent manpower, our posts should also be progressive, innovative and fulfilling.

Dr Currie will continue to work with the College and yourselves to help achieve these aims, but will stand down as RCOG National lead for SAS doctors in April 2012. We are therefore now asking for nominations to stand for election for this important post. Each nomination should be supported by Clinical Director.

Please send supported nominations to Drusilla Wieloch dwieloch@rcog.org.uk

The RCOG website contains a huge amount of information relevant for SAS doctors working within obstetrics and gynaecology. In addition, information about meetings, both of general interest and specific to our grade, CPD, FAQs and a forum, where you can share ideas, can be found in the links on this page. The RCOG has a National Lead for SAS doctors (Dr Heather Currie) who aims to act as a sounding board for your questions and concerns and represents SAS doctors' views on certain College committees such as the Recertification/Revalidation committee. The possibility of representation on other relevant committees is being explored.

SAS doctors’ Register

We have compiled a Register of contact details for SAS doctors in Obstetrics and Gynaecology around the UK so that we can keep in touch. If you have not yet received any information or newsletter, please send your preferred contact details to hcurrie@rcog.org.uk .

CPD

CPD is an increasingly important part of every doctor's work and extremely important for Revalidation. SAS doctors who have the MRCOG should already be registered with the RCOG CPD programme and should ensure that they are collecting relevant information. Details about the transition to the new CPD programme and online collection will be sent from the RCOG. Those who do not have MRCOG and are not registered with this programme should contact Valeria Ferrante as soon as possible. If you have any concerns or uncertainties, contact hcurrie@rcog.org.uk .
