I'm a Consultant... Get Me Out of Here!
(Reality & life in the Labour Ward 'jungle')
Thursday 8 December 2011, 11.00am
Mr Kim Hinshaw FRCOG
Consultant Obstetrician, CHS NHS Foundation Trust, Sunderland, Tyne & Wear
Obstetricians look after mothers during pregnancy and help deliver their babies when complications affect the pregnancy or birth. During 7 years of training, young doctors learn to deal with all sorts of rare emergencies but also have the unique opportunity of sharing in one of the most exciting times that couples experience.
This lecture will explore the path to becoming an obstetrician with examples of the ‘thrills, spills and minor miracles’ that can occur during a baby's development in its mother's womb and during birth.
This illustrated lecture will be held at the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. It is felt that the talk will be of particular interest to those in the 14-17 years age group.
