ENTOG was established in 1996 and is closely associated with the European Board and College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (EBCOG). The main objectives of ENTOG are to establish continuous means of communication between European trainees with a view to a better understanding of training in our specialty throughout Europe. The ultimate goal is to achieve comparable high standards of training and thus improve the quality of medical care in all European countries.
In order to reach these objectives, ENTOG organizes a yearly exchange program and educational meeting for trainees at which overseas trainees visit hospitals in the host country and then participate in a trainees conference. This is under the jurisdiction of EBCOG, which was founded in 1990, and consists of representatives of the Obstetrics and Gynaecology colleges of Europe. The meeting following the exchange program gives the opportunity for trainees and trainers to discuss their experiences and make suggestions for improvement.
This year, the ENTOG exchange and meeting will be held in the UK. From the 2nd until the 5th of May, up to 56 European O&G trainees, selected by their own countries O&G colleges, will be following around local trainees in UK hospitals and will be staying in the homes of local trainees and consultants. On Thursday the 5th of May they will travel to London and meet for drinks that evening. On Friday the 6th of May there will be an all day meeting at the RCOG with UK and European speakers, talking about simulation and multi-disciplinary aspects of O&G training, including a debate on whether run-through O&G training is preferable to training programs that incorporate other specialties.
UK trainees are very welcome to attend the meeting on the 6th of May and are also invited to submit abstracts for the poster exhibition. The best poster will be awarded a prize. This is an excellent opportunity to exhibit a poster at an international meeting.
More information on the ENTOG meeting, registration, payment and poster requirements can be found on the ENTOG website. Full details and registration for the meeting are only accessible after registering on the website, which is free.
Should you want your hospital to take part in the exchange, then please get in touch with me by emailing me on maudvandevenne@gmail.com. We have arranged most host hospitals by now, but could easily fill more places if they are available. All trainees and consultants who host ENTOG exchangees will receive a certificate stating their participation in this event.
