Images of people
Images of people, including photographs and films, are categorised as sensitive personal information under UK Data Protection law. As such, they must be handled in accordance with the law. If you are submitting such images in your tutorial/revisions you should ensure that the subject has completed the appropriate consent form.
- Individual consent form – to be completed by each person in a photograph or film
- Verbal consent form – to be completed by the photographer or contributor only if the gathering of individual consent forms is not possible
- Parental consent form – to be completed by the parent, guardian or carer of a subject if he or she is under the age of 18

Guidance on finding images
This online tutorial produced by the JISC Advisory Service for Digital Media will help you to locate copyright-cleared images on the internet, for use in learning and teaching materials or in publications. The website provides a tutorial on how to find out the licence/copyright status of images, and where to go to look for images.
StratOG have a small budget for purchasing images, for example from Science Photo Library or the Wellcome Image Library, so please let us know if you would like to purchase images.

Copyright
All StratOG authors need to complete a copyright form.
Illustrative matter
All artwork (figures, tables, photographs, etc.) that has appeared in published form requires permission for reproduction from the copyright owner.
Text
The previous understanding of 'fair dealing', i.e. quoting single extracts of up to 400 words of text, is no longer possible without formal permission, under recent copyright legislation. All textual extracts from printed material, no matter how short, require written permission and this must be obtained and submitted with the manuscript. However, please avoid quotes of this length if at all possible. These may be deleted during the editing process.
Please enclose a copy of your permission to reproduce with your submission.
IT IS THE AUTHOR'S RESPONSIBILITY TO OBTAIN COPYRIGHT PERMISSION.
