This week marks Cervical Cancer Prevention Week, a European wide initiative lead by the European Cervical Cancer Association (ECCA). It aims to raise awareness of cervical cancer and how it can be prevented.
The Department of Health announced today that a review will be conducted to assess evidence relating to cervical screening age. A panel of experts will review the latest evidence relating to the risks and benefits of cervical screening in women under 25. The Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) supports this initiative and looks forward to the results.
The recent media spotlight on Jade Goody’s battle with cervical cancer has highlighted the importance of regular cervical screening as a means of preventing cervical cancer, through the detection of pre-cancer abnormalities, which, if left untreated, may develop into cancer.
