RCOG Statement on the launch of the NICE Clinical Guideline on Heavy Menstrual Bleeding

As many as one woman in twenty suffers from heavy menstrual bleeding. This NICE Guideline, published by the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG), recognises menstrual problems as a frequent cause of ill health and a major quality of life issue for many women. The Guideline addresses the investigation and management of heavy or irregular bleeding, using the most up-to-date evidence from the most recent clinical studies and trials. It emphasises the relevance of the right investigations and the importance of discussion and patient information. There are now many alternative treatment options, such that hysterectomy should now be viewed as a last resort.
