RCOG statement on Eating Disorders Awareness Week (20-26 February)

Eating Disorders Awareness Week takes place from Monday 20 February to Sunday 26 February 2012.

Ian Currie, RCOG Honorary Secretary, said:

“Maintaining a healthy weight and diet is vital in pregnancy and eating disorders can have an impact on a woman’s fertility and pregnancy.

“Women should be informed about the importance of a healthy pre-pregnancy diet and nutrition from a young age.

“Women with an eating disorder who are planning a baby should ideally seek treatment prior to conception and they will require more support during the antenatal and postnatal period.”
