RCOG statement on the meeting at No. 10 today

The Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) was invited to attend the NHS summit at Number 10 this afternoon where we represented concerns of our membership.

At this meeting, the RCOG President used a clinical scenario as an example to the Prime Minister and the Secretary of State of the critical importance of maintaining comprehensive acute services in secondary settings.  These services must never be compromised by the unintended consequences posed by alternative providers.

What remains for the Department of Health is to implement integrated services through a network model that links all providers of women’s health.  The RCOG is strongly committed to this strategy.

Dr Tony Falconer RCOG President said “The RCOG’s position from the start is that it will work for the benefit of the women its serves and the profession.  We have never said we fully support the Bill, instead, we have always stated that we have concerns with elements of the Bill which we have tried to address through the NHS Listening Exercise and meetings with the Department of Health and politicians.“
