Update on activities 2009
The RCOG International Office was established in 2005 with the aim of using the experience and expertise of its Fellows and Members to make an effective contribution to improving reproductive and sexual healthcare, especially in developing countries. The past year has been our busiest yet:
- Maternal Mortality is getting higher on the political agenda and we are hopeful that this will result in more resources being made available to tackle maternal and newborn mortality.
- We have continued to develop our projects and programmes to improve women’s healthcare
- The results of a survey of our international members, to assess the areas where they feel the RCOG should be more active, are being analysed and this will help inform our future direction
- Representative committees and liaison groups have also been active in promoting the specialty
A ful report of the year's activities is available. (pdf)
The International Office of the RCOG was established in 2005 and is committed to reducing maternal and newborn mortality and improving maternal care in under-resourced and developing countries.
The RCOGIO delivers projects and programmes in developing and under-resourced countries in partnership with the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine. In addition to this work the International Office administers the International Doctors Training Programme and various awards (travel bursaries and prizes for written submissions), organises international conferences and supports the work of the College's 30 Representative Committees around the world. We have also established a number of Liaison Groups for diaspora based in the UK.
More information about our work can be found by clicking on the links on the left.
