Membership without examination

Council has resolved that those doctors holding a consultant or honorary post at consultant level in the British Isles for a minimum of one year may apply for Membership of the College without Examination, subject to fulfilling the following criteria:

  1. Applicants must provide evidence that they are fully registered with the General Medical Council/Medical Council of Ireland and that their name appears on the Specialist Register in obstetrics and gynaecology.
  2. Applicants must submit a letter from their NHS Trust confirming that, following open competitive interview, they are in a substantive NHS consultant post in obstetrics and gynaecology or equivalent in the Republic of Ireland, have held that post for a minimum of 12 months and provide a copy of their job description.
  3. Applicants must provide evidence of having successfully completed one annual appraisal.
  4. Applicants must confirm in writing that they are responsible, in the British Isles, for training future Members of the College.
  5. Applicants must confirm that they are willing to participate in the RCOG's Continuing Professional Development programme.
  6. Applicants will not be eligible for consideration if they have attempted the Part 2 MRCOG examination and failed.
  7. Applicants must confirm that they are not currently suspended or removed from medical practice by any authorising body, involved in professional disciplinary proceedings, or under any investigation related to medical practice in any country.

Once Membership is approved, applicants will be required to sign the appropriate declaration form before admission to the Membership and remit fees as follows:-

Assessment Fee £150.00
Membership Registration Fee £250.00
Annual Subscription Resident in the British Isles £488.00
TOTAL £888.00

(Note: all fees are subject to annual review)

Members admitted after 1 July in any year shall pay one half of the annual subscription for that year and will be advised accordingly.

Applicants who satisfy the requirements will be admitted, in absentia, to the Membership at the next meeting of Council.

The College reserves the right to refuse admission to the Membership for reasons that the Council of the College in its absolute discretion thinks fit.

Continuing Membership is dependant upon payment of an annual subscription.

Each Member shall be entitled to the appropriate form of certificate under the seal of the College.
