Manuscript submission and peer review

The Obstetrician & Gynaecologist uses a web-based submission and peer review system. Authors can use the online system to submit articles and monitor the progress of peer review.

Submission for publication

Articles in the journal are commissioned by the Editorial Board. If you would like to contribute, please submit your ideas, accompanied by a structured abstract outlining your proposal, to the Editorial Office

The abstract should have the following format:

  • Up to five bulleted information points summarising the key content of the article
  • Up to three bulleted learning objectives: these are pointers as to what any person reading the article would reasonably be expected to learn from it
  • Up to three bulleted ethical issues raised in or by the article

Please also provide details of your experience relevant to the topic covered in your proposed article. All papers require at least one author to be at consultant or equivalent level in their specialty.

Peer Review

All articles published in TOG are subject to peer review. On initial submission, the Editor-in-Chief and at least one Editor review articles to decide whether or not they are suitable. At this stage, revisions may be requested prior to further peer review. Most manuscripts are then reviewed by two peer reviewers who are not Editorial Board members. Articles in the ‘Ethics’ section are reviewed by the Editors and one external reviewer unless additional expert opinion is required by the Editors. Articles in the ‘New developments’ and ‘Views and counter views’ sections are reviewed only by the Editors unless they require further expert opinion. Where there is disagreement, the Editor-in-Chief’s decision is final.
