Revalidation - How do I know my doctor is up-to-date?

Information for Patients

Patients trust doctors with their lives and wellbeing. They need to have the confidence that doctors are competent and abide by high professional standards. All doctors who wish to practise medicine in the UK must be both registered and licensed with the General Medical Council (GMC).

The way in which doctors are regulated is changing. The GMC has put together proposals for a new process to assure patients and the public, employers and other healthcare practitioners that licensed doctors are up-to-date and fit to practise. This process is called revalidation.
