Candidate profiles for the North East region election on the Trainees' Committee
Candidates:
Hira Fatima – ST5
Professional Activities
I'm ST5 at James Cook University Hospital where I'm in charge of the teaching programme for the trainees. I'm interested in benign abdominal surgery along with labour ward, hence aiming to pick these two as my ATSMs. I'm also member of BIARGs and Trainee Executive Committee and now want to play my role in RCOG trainee committee.
Statement
I want to apply for this post as I want to make trainees' voice heard and play my role in improving the learning opportunities, promoting learn not blame culture and add to the cultural diversity in trainee's committee.
Hannah Gamblin – ST6
Professional Activities
For the last three years I have been involved in the RCOG training committee at a local level. I was pleased to play an integral role in improvements to departmental teaching, negotiating protected training time and drives to improve staff wellbeing. More recently, I have participated in national working groups for the introduction of a new higher specialty training infrastructure. I play an active role in undergraduate and specialty trainee teaching and am committed to improving the trainee experience within the North East. My interests lie in benign gynaecological surgery and abortion care and am passionate about elevating homegrown talent!
Statement
Having seen the fantastic work accomplished by predecessors of this role, I see not only the big shoes to fill, but the common theme of passion about improving the trainee experience. In every unit I have trained, I have worked hard to improve conditions, formalise teaching and listen to peers about ways to improve our training. Being part of this committee has reinforced my passion and commitment to working within the college to raise the profile of training in the North East and I would love the opportunity to continue being an active participant at a regional level.
