Target Ovarian Cancer Essay Prize

The College is proud to support the Target Ovarian Cancer essay prize

Prize

This prize is made up of three prizes:

  • First prize: £750
  • Second prize: £500
  • Third prize: £250

Eligibility

The prize is open to all undergraduate medical students studying at a UK medical school. It aims to encourage students to read more widely on ovarian cancer, to think about some of the current issues and learn about recent research.

Funding of the Target Ovarian Cancer essay prize is made possible due to the kind generosity of the Annette Mills Charitable Trust.

Conditions

Applicants must submit an essay of up to 2,000 words including footnotes for a maximum of three figures and/or tables (a 10 per cent margin either side will be applied). Applicants should include no more than ten references.

Submit an essay that addresses one of the following:

  • Abdominal symptoms presenting in primary care: when to consider ovarian cancer in the differential diagnosis and how to avoid common misdiagnosis
  • Describe the value of CA125 as a diagnostic tool for ovarian cancer and how NICE guidelines for primary care could be revised to reflect latest findings
  • How can health care services be best organised to support the early diagnosis of ovarian cancer?
