Remit

Reporting mechanism

The External Affairs Board reports to Council.

Objectives

  • To take responsibility for increasing the visibility and influence of the College among external audiences, including the government, media and other stakeholders
  • To develop, implement and oversee the College’s advocacy activities
  • To have strategic oversight of the College’s communications activities
  • To lead on the public impact and presentation of key College initiatives
  • To undertake horizon scanning for external events and issues that will impact the College’s work – e.g. national reports in women’s health, parliamentary activity affecting women’s health care – and to liaise with relevant College boards, committees and departments as required
  • To monitor perceptions of the College among key stakeholders and agree actions to address any concerns
  • To oversee the implementation of elements of the digital strategy relating to external (non-member) audiences
  • To guide the overall strategic direction of the College’s external affairs activities, ensuring they contribute to the College’s overall strategic goals, including: policy; public affairs; media and PR; takeholder engagement
  • To develop KPIs for the above external affairs activities, ensuring the impact of the College’s work in these areas is measured, analysed, reported and refined
