MTI Committee

The MTI Committee was previously known as the MTI and Volunteering Committee, and the Global Placement Committee.

The MTI Committee reports to

Objectives

Responsible for the MTI applications process and placement post applications and matching processes, MTI educational standards and quality assurance of the RCOG Medical Training Initiative scheme.

  • To promote and develop the RCOG Medical Training Initiative (MTI) in line with the philanthropic aims of the MTI scheme in advancing global health and patient safety standards
  • To promote the training scheme to the RCOG global membership and ensure parity in the process for International Medical Graduates of all nationalities
  • To promote the MTI training scheme to hospitals across the 4 countries
  • To identify appropriate training placements in the UK for doctors to undertake MTI training, ensuring placements meet minimum accepted standards of training and educational support
  • To oversee the MTI eligibility criteria, applications process and short listing / wait listing process for MTI recruitment
  • Providing ongoing quality assurance to ensure highest standards in the MTI selection process
  • To monitor applications, recruitment, progression, retention rates and outcome information relating to MTI doctors to inform College and wider MTI strategy
  • To drive forward the educational framework for MTI training in the UK and work towards removing regional variations
  • To support and work alongside the RCOG MTI Regional Champions to standardize educational standards and support across regions including a centralized ARC process for MTI trainees
  • To develop and deliver an MTI induction programme, MTI educational resources and MTI support networks for MTI trainees and placement hospitals that best advance MTI training in the UK
  • To contribute to the development of educational and training links between the RCOG, International Representative Committees, Liaison Group Chairs and national societies
  • To work with the established Trust/LETB mechanisms and Specialty Education Advisory Committee (SEAC) to ensure that a network of communication exists between the Deaneries/LETBs and the College that supports MTI training
  • To use feedback from MTI stakeholders including current and past MTI trainees, placement hospitals and Regional Champions to identify areas where support or improvement is needed
  • To identify, support and develop new initiatives in the interest of continuous improvement of MTI training
