When are my membership fees due?

Your RCOG membership becomes due annually on 31 January.

Members will be provided with notification for renewal in October 2020, which will include details of our standard membership fees and Direct Debit collections.

How can I pay my membership fee? 


I have not paid my membership fees – will my membership continue?

Membership subscriptions become due on 31 January each year and it is important that your fees are paid as promptly as possible.

We recognise and accept that payments may take some time to arrange, particularly for those members based overseas. Nevertheless, members who are in arrears for a 2-month period or more will have their benefits removed.

Members who are in arrears for a period of 7 months or more will be removed from the Register and will no longer be considered to be a Fellow or Member of the College. You will be required to pay all outstanding fees prior to your name being submitted to Council for consideration for reinstatement.

I am leaving or returning to the UK or Republic of Ireland. Will this affect my fees?

Membership fees will either be reduced or increased for those leaving or returning from/to the UK or Republic of Ireland* prior to 28 February of the current year.

Can I claim tax relief?

If you are a UK tax payer you can reduce the cost of your subscription fee through tax relief. In addition, you may also be able to backdate your claim for previous years. You can use your subscription receipt that is automatically sent to you each year following fee payment for this purpose. Please contact your tax advisor or the HM Revenue and Customs for advice concerning your individual claim and circumstances.

How do I claim relief?

Information on making a claim is available from HM Revenue and Customs on 0845 300 0627 or online on the HMRC website.

How much will I get back?

This will depend on a number of factors including your subscription fee level and your tax situation. As a guide, members who are UK tax payers can claim up to 40% on their RCOG subscription.

I want to notify you of my retirement

If you’ve retired from all forms of employment (including medico-legal work), and inform the College by 31 January, you’ll no longer be required to pay an annual subscription for subsequent years – although all outstanding arrears must be settled in full.

Please make your request in writing by email to We will then send you a cessation declaration form to complete for our records.

Benefits for retired Fellows or Members

As a retired Fellow or Member, you’ll continue to receive the RCOG membership magazine (O&G) and regular email updates, Council election notices and dinner notices (UK* & Republic of Ireland residents only).

If you wish to continue to receive other material, an additional fee will be required as follows:

  • £39 per annum to receive TOG (The Obstetrician & Gynaecologist)
  • £63 per annum (UK rate) to receive BJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (for international rates, please visit our partner publisher Wiley’s website)

50% discount on RCOG courses

Retired RCOG Fellows and Members are entitled to a 50% discount on the RCOG member rate registration fee. You will need to state that you are retired at the time of booking.

To qualify for the discount you must be registered as retired with the RCOG and will need to book your place on the course over the phone with our Events team on +44 (0) 20 7772 6245 or by post. If you need to update your status, please email

I am partially retired – how will this affect my membership?

You are required to continue paying a membership fee until you’ve retired from all forms of employment.

However, please email or call us on +44 (0) 20 7045 6776 to discuss your options if your hours are significantly reduced and/or you are struggling to pay your fee.

Is there a retired association?

We welcome continued involvement from members after retirement.

Once retired, you‘ll be eligible for life membership and will automatically join the Retired Fellows and Members Society.

Cancelling or reinstating your membership

I am thinking about cancelling my membership

Before you make a decision, consult the concessions and special circumstances page, and consider these points:

  • Are you eligible for a concessionary rate?
    You may be eligible for a concession on your subscription due to your circumstance.
  • Are you experiencing personal financial difficulties?
    We do not currently offer concessionary rates for members working part time.
    However, if you are suffering financial difficulty please email or call us on +44 (0) 20 7045 6776 to discuss your options.

If you still wish to cancel your membership, please email and the team will process your request.

I wish to reinstate my membership

Members who have lapsed and wish to re-join the RCOG register are required to pay any outstanding subscription fees against their account along with the current year’s subscription fee.

Once payment is received your name will be put forward at our next Board of Trustees meeting for reinstatement of membership.
