The National Guideline Alliance (NGA), on behalf of NICE, is seeking to recruit a number of Chairs for guideline committees due to start work over the next year.
Once each guideline gets underway, the Chair will work in collaboration with the staff of the National Guideline Alliance, the Topic Adviser and the Committee over a period of approximately 24 months to develop the guideline on behalf of NICE.
We are looking for skilled and experienced leaders with a track record of chairing multi-professional committees or working groups at a national level. Chairing a guideline committee requires strong interpersonal and team-working skills, along with excellent verbal and written communication skills. An ability to communicate complex issues to differing audiences is a vital part of this role. Applicants should have a commitment to evidence based medicine or practice, ideally with experience of guideline development processes.
Chairs are appointed for their expertise and skill in chairing groups, and although they may have some knowledge of the topic, this is not their primary role in the group. Specialist knowledge is provided by other committee members.
From April 2019 to January 2020, the NGA is expecting to start work on the following guideline topics:
- Self-harm (update)
- Meningitis (bacterial) and meningococcal septicaemia in under 16s: recognition, diagnosis and management
- Rehabilitation for Chronic Neurological Disorders Including Traumatic Brain Injury
- Maternal and child nutrition (update) & Weight management before, during and after pregnancy (update)
Please note, this list is indicative and subject to change. Allocation of Chairs to a specific guideline will be determined after their appointment.
Please note that Chairs may not have any direct interests (financial, non-financial professional or personal) that relate to the areas to be covered by the guideline. For further information, see NICE’s policy on declaring and managing interests for NICE advisory committees (PDF).
