Artwork: "Elemental"

A unique sculpture to celebrate great work

Elemental sculptureThe College’s work in women’s health in the UK and globally has rapidly grown over the past five years.

Towards the end of 2016, the College ran a competition to create a piece of art to highlight this, and formally recognise those individuals who have made significant contributions to such work, either in a legacy or as a gift.

Nathalie Vin, a contemporary, mixed media and mosaic artist, was selected. Pictured is the piece she created to represent the experience of women’s health and wellbeing, appropriately called 'Elemental'.

The piece was installed at the College and unveiled on 1 June 2017. Regarding the design of the piece, Nathalie explained: "it had to be a circle, because it represents life for me".

The piece is unique in that it serves to formally recognise those individuals who have made significant financial contributions enabling the College to expand its work. Three individuals' names were initially incorporated into the piece, which has the capacity for further names to be added. These initial names are Marcus Filshie DM FRCOG, Valentine Husband FRCOG, and Lindsay Stewart CBE.

We hope the piece inspires others, and encourages those who have the means to consider making a financial contribution to work in women’s health in the future.

Please come and visit the College to see the piece: we would be delighted to tell you more about it (ask at Reception for a member of the Development team). Alternatively, please contact the Development Office at if you are interested in finding out more about the piece.
