How can I arrange work experience in medicine, and O&G in particular?
The careers lead at your school or college can provide advice about local opportunities for work experience. You can also contact your local NHS trust for advice. Many NHS trusts run a volunteer or work experience service, which is an excellent way of obtaining work experience relevant to medical and other health-related careers. Other healthcare settings, for example GP surgeries and care homes, can provide different avenues for work experience.
The nature of the specialty means that work experience directly in O&G may be restricted, for example by your age; your local NHS trust will be able to advise. For all work experience in an NHS setting, you’ll be required to have a supervisor and understand your responsibilities, particularly regarding patient confidentiality.
