Deferred candidates

Due to the ongoing pandemic, social distancing measures, and government restrictions in place across individual countries, we have been unable to accommodate all candidates affected by the postponement of exams over the last 12 months.

As a result, for the July 2021 exam we will continue to prioritise placements for candidates who have already had a previous booking and where we have agreed to defer their placement to a future exam.

Deferred candidates will be contacted on Tuesday 30 March 2021 to book their place into available Pearson VUE test centres.

Bookings for new applicants will open on Wednesday 7 April 2021. Please note, some of the countries listed above may not be available for new applicants, depending on remaining spaces available after deferred candidates have been provided with the first opportunity to book a test centre place.

Coronavirus travel restrictions

Candidates should only book into a country they are able to safely travel to, in accordance with local government guidelines.

Capacity and additional Part 2 exam in September 2021

Despite our best efforts, we are still trying to support and catch up on the demand for exam places. While we are delighted to have been able to continue to deliver exams, thanks to our move to computer-based testing, unfortunately places outside of the UK have been at a reduced capacity.

To support candidates, we will be running an additional Part 2 exam on Tuesday 21 September 2021. Candidates unable to secure a place for the July 2021 exam will have a further opportunity to book a place for September 2021. The booking window for the September exam will be confirmed in due course.

FAQs for Part 2 July 2021 exam

I am a deferred candidate. Do I need to reapply?

No, your previous application is still valid. You will be contacted on Tuesday 30 March 2021 with information on how to schedule a slot in one of Pearson VUE’s test centres.

I am a deferred candidate. Will I be guaranteed a test centre place in my country of residence?

No. We hope the majority of candidates will be able to find an available test centre in their country of residence, but test centres are not available in all countries. In addition, space in some countries may still be limited. In these instances, we hope candidates are able to secure space in alternative locations. However, candidates should only book into a country they are able to safely travel to in accordance with local government guidelines.

Do I have to book in my country of residence?

Candidates should only book into a country they are able to safely travel to, in accordance with local government guidelines. This does not have to be your current country of residence.

What is computer-based testing and how does it work?

Please find more information about the new computer-based testing on our New Exams IT System page.

What if I need reasonable adjustments to be put in place to sit the exam?

Requests for reasonable adjustments must be made by the close of the application window, at 4pm UK time on Wednesday 14 April 2021. If you wish to request an adjustment to the examination setting, please first read the Supporting Special Circumstances Policy and submit your request to ExamConfidentialEnquiries@rcog.org.uk.
