MRCOG Part 3 exam postponement
Update 13 March 2020
As a result of the increased spread of COVID-19 the RCOG has taken the difficult decision to postpone the MRCOG Part 3 exam due to take place on 11-14 May 2020.
The decision has been made to protect the health of our candidates, examiners and staff, along with supporting the global containment and reduction in the spread of COVID-19. With over 500 people involved each day, the majority of whom work in the health service, we feel the only responsible action is to postpone the examination.
We will now focus our efforts on rescheduling the examination to a later date and will be in touch with all eligible candidates once this has been confirmed.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in this matter. If you have any questions in the meantime, please contact MRCOGPart3@rcog.org.uk.
Frequently asked questions
Why is the MRCOG Part 3 exam being postponed?
With the ongoing global spread of COVID-19 we have postponed the examination to protect the health of our candidates, examiners and staff.
When will the rescheduled MRCOG Part 3 date be?
We will be looking at options for running the examination later in 2020. When we have a confirmed date we will be in touch with all eligible candidates and stakeholders.
I am eligible for a guaranteed place will this be transferred?
Yes, all those eligible for a guaranteed place will receive a guaranteed place on the next examination.
I am a UK trainee how will this affect my progression?
We are in discussions with Postgraduate Deans to minimise the impact to progression through training.
I am an examiner and have booked travel and accommodation, what should I do?
If you have booked your own accommodation please cancel this now. If you have booked your travel either through Key Travel or independently please cancel. If you have incurred any costs please complete an expenses form and submit it along with your receipts.
I am a candidate and have booked travel and accommodation expecting to sit the May 2020 examination, am I entitled to a refund?
The examination bookings had not opened therefore candidates should not have incurred any costs. The RCOG will not reimburse any fees incurred.
I am an overseas candidate who due to demand has not been able to gain a place on the MRCOG Part 3, when will I be able to sit the examination?
With our overseas expansion plan we are doing everything we can to increase the number of exam places to meet demand. We have postponed the exam not cancelled it and will be aiming to provide the same number of exam places on an alternative date. We are aware there are candidates who have struggled to gain a place in the last two years. We are looking at how we can address this problem.
Will the Part 1 and Part 2 exams, or the DRCOG, be cancelled?
We are reviewing all other exams (Part 1 and Part 2 MRCOG, and DRCOG) and will communicate a decision shortly.
