The colposcopy ATSM is designed for trainees wishing to practise colposcopy as a medical gynaecologist or within the subspecialty of gynaecological oncology.
Curriculum and course syllabus
The RCOG introduces an updated curriculum and logbook for the Colposcopy ATSM from 1 August 2016. Please ensure that you are using the correct version:
If you start the Colposcopy ATSM on 1 August 2016, you must use the Colposcopy (August 2016) version
If you started the Colposcopy ATSM before 1 August 2016 you can switch to the new curriculum if you wish, but this is not mandatory. However, if you envisage that you will not complete the Colposcopy ATSM by 28 February 2017, you have to switch to the new curriculum.
This ATSM has a work intensity score of 1.0.
Trainees with BSCCP accreditation
If you have British Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology (BSCCP) accreditation, you’re eligible for colposcopy ATSM recognition.
You must register with the RCOG for the colposcopy ATSM. Your ATSM Preceptor will review evidence of the following clinical skills before signing the notification of completion of ATSM form (PDF, 63 kb):
- You must demonstrate that you have achieved competencies in colposcopy through a completed BSSCP logbook
- You must undertake an additional 50 indirectly supervised new colposcopy cases in the year you register for the ATSM; workplace-based assessments will be carried out as determined by your ATSM Preceptor, who will ensure competence
- You must undertake a colposcopy-related audit
- You must attend a registered colposcopy meeting within 3 years of registering for the ATSM
Workplace-based assessments (WPBAs)
For guidance on how WPBAs work, please go to the workplace-based assessments page.
You have to be competent in the following (click on each bullet point for full details):
Log of experience
The log of experience is designed to help you monitor your clinical experience and record your training. You don’t need to submit this log to the RCOG, but your School may want to see evidence of your experience. You can develop your own spreadsheet if you prefer.
Keep this log of experience in your Training ePortfolio. Record your training in as much detail as possible, for your own benefit as well as for your ATSM Preceptor and deanery.
