OSATS, paediatric and adolescent gynaecology ATSM

This page sets out the OSATS requirements for the ATSM in paediatric and adolescent gynaecology.

You have to be competent in:

Examination under anaesthetic and vaginoscopy

Preparation of the patient:

  • 1. Ensure correct positioning of the patient including choice of appropriately sized stirrups if necessary
  • 2. Clean and drape


  • 3. Inspection of perineum including visualisation of normal and abnormal features
  • 4. Take vaginal and urethral swabs
  • 5. Choice of appropriate endoscope
  • 6. Assembling appropriate endoscope
  • 7. Fluid distension of the vagina
  • 8. Description of normal and abnormal features
  • 9. Take biopsy and remove foreign body if present
  • 10. Document findings
  • 11. Summarise findings and make plan for follow-up
