You have to be competent in:
Ultrasound assessment of the normal female pelvis
- Counsel patient about procedure
- Appropriate probe selection and machine set-up
- Identify the bladder and other normal pelvic landmarks
- Identify and assess the uterus
- Assess and measure the endometrium
- Identify, assess and measure the ovaries
- Assess pouch of Douglas and the adnexae
- Assess mobility and tenderness of the pelvic organs with the probe
- Interpret ultrasound findings in the context of the clinical setting
- Communicate results to patient and advise on management as appropriate
- Complete written structured ultrasound report
- Arrange appropriate follow-up
Ultrasound assessment of uterine fibroids
- Counsel patient about procedure
- Appropriate probe selection and machine operation
- Identify and assess uterus and endometrial cavity
- Identify all individual fibroids
- Measure all fibroids in three orthogonal planes and describe their location in relation to the uterine cavity
- Check adnexa and pouch of Douglas
- Interpret ultrasound findings in the context of the clinical setting
- Communicate results to patient and advise on management
- Complete a written structured ultrasound report
- Arrange appropriate follow-up
Ultrasound assessment of endometrial abnormality
- Counsel patient about procedure
- Appropriate probe selection and machine operation
- Identify and assess uterus and endometrial cavity
- Measure the endometrium
- Assess the endometrial abnormality
- Check adnexa and pouch of Douglas
- Interpret ultrasound findings in the context of the clinical setting
- Communicate results to patient and advise on management
- Complete a written structured ultrasound report
- Arrange appropriate follow-up
Ultrasound assessment of pelvic pain
- Counsel patient about the procedure
- Appropriate probe selection and machine operation
- Identify and assess uterus and endometrial cavity
- Check for the presence of adenomyosis and/or fibroids
- Identify ovaries and check for the presence of endometriomas and other ovarian abnormalities
- Check adnexae and pouch of Douglas for the presence of adhesions, hydrosalpinges and endometriotic nodules
- Assess mobility and tenderness of pelvic organs by performing ultrasound guided palpation
- Communicate results as appropriate to patient and advise on management
- Complete a written structured ultrasound report
- Arrange appropriate follow-up
Ultrasound assessment of ovarian lesions
- Counsel patient about the procedure
- Appropriate probe selection and machine operation
- Identify and assess uterus and check for presence of fibroids and any other abnormalities
- Identify and assess ovaries
- Determine the origin and size of the lesion
- Analyse morphological features of the lesion using a systematic and structured approach
- Assess mobilityof the lesion
- Look for the signs of ascites and pelvic tumour deposits
- Communicate results as appropriate to patient and advise on management
- Complete a written structured ultrasound report
- Arrange appropriate follow-up
