OSATS, intermediate ultrasound of normal fetal anatomy

This page sets out the OSATS requirements for the intermediate ultrasound of normal fetal anatomy module. You have to be competent in:

Normal fetal anatomy and biometry

  • Counsel patient about procedure and limitations
  • Appropriate probe selection and machine operation
  • Confirm fetal heartbeat
  • Measure BPD, HC, TCD, AC, FL transabdominally
  • Demonstrate normal anatomy
  • Identify placental site or position in relation to the cervical canal if appropriate
  • Assess liquor volume
  • Communicate results to patient
  • Discuss appropriate referral to other specialities, if indicated
  • Ensure images and video are recorded according to local protocol
  • Complete a written structured report
