Formal policies and procedures

This is one of the recommendations from the ‘strategic’ section of the RCOG/RCM undermining toolkit.

Formal policies and procedures

Organisations should outline an explicit commitment to tackling bullying by promoting formal policies and procedures. These policies need to be agreed and promoted across the health economy. Health organisations need to collaborate to ensure joint working on these issues.

Health organisations already stipulate that contractors must have appropriate health and safety and antidiscrimination policies. They could also require all contractors (including other health organisations as well as those providing other services such as IT, catering, legal representation, estates and builders, etc.) to have appropriate policies on workplace behaviour. See section 5.1.3 of the Illing report.
