Organisational mission statement/values
Many organisations have a mission statement or vision that captures the organisational ethos. For example, the Western Health and Social Care Trust’s vision is ‘To provide high quality patient and client-focused health and social care services through well trained staff with high morale’.
In the context of good workplace behaviour, promotion of this type of culture from the top down is vital. For example, this trust has the CEO’s photo on its website, intranet and posters, with values prominently displayed.
In addition, the trust’s vision is supported by six core values which underpin the organisational culture. These values are owned not only by the CEO and executive but by all staff. If individuals don’t behave well, other staff and managers can challenge the behaviour as incongruent with the trust’s values.
