Intrapartum Fetal Heart Rate (FHR) Monitoring Workshop

Location: OCEC

Cost: US $130

Timings: 8:30 to 12:30

Original interpretations of fetal heart rate (FHR) patterns equated FHR decelerations to “fetal distress” requiring emergency delivery overlooking fetal physiological adaptations to intrapartum hypoxic ischaemic insults. This over simplified approach is still prevalent.

Learning Objectives

This CTG Masterclass helps the participants to:

  • Understand how the fetus defends itself and compensates for hypoxic ischaemic insults during labour
  • Recognises the FHR patterns that suggest decompensation & types of fetal hypoxic ischaemic injuries
  • Appreciate the nuances of fetal monitoring in labours complicated by meconium, fever, infection, syntocinon, etc…
  • Use the clinical guidelines more intelligently and reduce variation in interpretation, defensive practice, and unnecessary operative interventions
