This exam is only open to applicants who are currently registered with the UK General Medical Council (GMC) or the Medical Council of Ireland. If you are not registered with either regulatory body at the time of application, please do not proceed any further as you are not eligible to attempt this exam. 

Please ensure your GMC/MCI number is completed in your profile BEFORE you complete the booking form. You can check and add your number in your account section.

All applicants will need to register a user account on the RCOG website and be logged into the website before they may complete their booking, using the booking form at the bottom of this page (this only appears once signed in).

Re-sit candidates

If you have previously attempted the Diploma exam, you will already have a website account, even if you have not logged into the RCOG website before. Please do not attempt to register a new user account on the RCOG website if you have previously entered this exam but cannot remember your log-in details or College registration number.

If you do not know your login details, please contact, if possible quoting your College number (this will be a six-digit number).

Terms and conditions

By continuing with the booking process, you agree to all the terms of the Diploma exam regulations and to the transfer of all copyright subsisting in examination material produced by you to the College.

You confirm that you are not currently suspended or removed from medical practice by any authorising body or involved in any disciplinary proceedings related to medical practice in any country.

You also confirm that you have not sat the Diploma examination five times or more previously.

First-time candidates only

If you are a first-time candidate, please ensure that you have accurately entered your seven-digit GMC registration number in the space provided (register or sign into the site, then click on ‘My details’ to check your GMC number).

Similarly, if you are registered with the Medical Council of Ireland you should enter your six-digit registration number. Your name will be registered with the RCOG exactly as it appears on the GMC List of Registered Medical Practitioners or the Medical Council of Ireland Register of Medical Practitioners.

Reasonable adjustments for disabled candidates

Candidates applying for extra exam time or any other extra allowances need to complete the reasonable adjustments form and supply supporting documentation i.e. a full educational psychologist’s report. This should be posted to the Examinations Department or emailed to before the booking closing date. Reports sent at a later date will not be considered.

All candidates applying for extra allowances should apply to sit their exams in a UK exam centre.

For the purpose of these exams, the minimum age at which a candidate should have had their educational assessment completed is 16.

Name change

If your name has changed you need to provide an attested re-issued primary medical degree certificate or certificate of medical registration stating your new/married name, as well as a copy of your marriage certificate showing both your former and your new name. These documents must be sent to the exams department at and received by the closing date.
