Overview

A one day workshop where delegates can learn about topics relevant to management of Massive Obstetric Haemorrhage (MOH) with lectures from experienced clinicians. This is combined with a hands-on workshop with practical clinical tips on uterine compression sutures, balloon tamponade, estimation of blood loss and pelvic packing. This workshop is particularly for healthcare professionals who will first come in contact with haemorrhaging mothers and is geared to delivering interventions which are rapid, easy to learn and life-saving.

Learning Objectives for hands on stations

  • Appreciation of accuracy and reproducibility of visual assessment of MOH
  • Develop relevant hands on skill for compression sutures and balloon tamponade
  • Role of abdominal and pelvic packing as a lifesaving procedure

After attending the meeting, you will

  • Have an overview of medical and surgical management of PPH
  • Understand rationale behind uterine compression sutures
  • Understand required skills in managing morbidly adherent placenta
  • Appreciate the role of human factors and teamwork
  • Learn about the role of interventional radiology in managing MOH
