Overview

The Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) and The PROMPT Maternity Foundation (PMF) are working together to improve awareness and facilitate the distribution of obstetric emergencies training as widely as possible.

PROMPT (PRactical Obstetric Multi-Professional Training) is a multi-professional obstetric emergencies training package that has been developed by PMF for use in local maternity units with the aim of reducing preventable harm to mothers and their babies. This training package consists of interactive drills and workshops that provide “hands-on” experience of practical skills and decision-making in simulated obstetric emergency situations.

How does the PROMPT 2 course differ from the original PROMPT course?

PROMPT 2 includes new modules, algorithms, implementation tools, scenarios and videos:

  • New modules: Maternal Sepsis, Twin Birth, Major Obstetric Haemorrhage (includes ante-partum haemorrhage), Uterine Inversion and Anaesthetic problems in pregnancy
  • Updated modules: Teamworking, BLS and Maternal Collapse, Eclampsia, Cord Prolapse, Shoulder Dystocia, Vaginal Breech Birth, Fetal monitoring in labour and Newborn resuscitation

Who should attend?

The PROMPT 2 training package provides the opportunity for a multi-professional team of 4 staff from a maternity unit or institution to be trained as PROMPT Trainers. Teams participating in the training may consist of:

  • Healthcare support workers
  • Labour Ward Midwives
  • Maternity Risk Managers and Educators
  • Obstetricians
  • Obstetric Anaesthetists
  • Obstetric Nurses

Learning objectives

After attending this meeting you will:

  • Be familiar with the contents of the PROMPT Course in a Box
  • Receive guidance on how to run multi-professional PROMPT Courses in your own unit
  • Receive ideas and ‘serving suggestions’ for running practical hands-on obstetric emergencies drills and scenarios
  • Be aware of the importance of integrating team working within the local clinical training
  • Gain information on the 10 key steps to implementing effective PROMPT training

Course fees

  • New PROMPT maternity units/institutions: £4000 (including VAT at 20%) per team (of 4)
  • Existing PROMPT 1 maternity units/institutions: £2000* (including VAT at 20%) per team (of 4)

Any hospital/unit can send more than 1 team, but will be charged in multiples of the event fee e.g. if you wish to send 2 teams the charge will be £8000, 3 teams £12000 etc.

*This discounted rate is available for maternity units/Institutions who have previously sent teams to the PROMPT 1 Train the Trainers (T3) Day which ran from February 2008 to March 2012. Please contact us for further information.

The fees include:

  • Provision of the PROMPT 2 ‘Course in a Box’ containing: Participants course manuals, Trainer’s manuals, CD Rom of lectures and multi-media
  • Training for 4 multi-professional members of staff from each unit to facilitate the implementation of the PROMPT course in their own maternity unit
  • One year’s telephone and email support when setting up the course ‘in-house

How to book

Please register using the postal registration form, one per delegate. These can be returned by fax to +44 20 7772 6388 or emailed to kcollings@rcog.org.uk.

To be invoiced for payment:

You need to complete the registration form, one per delegate and send them along with a headed letter from you trust. This letter should contain the following information and will only be accepted if it is on official headed paper:

  • Purchase order number (if applicable)
  • Name and date of event
  • Name of delegates attending
  • Invoice amount
  • Invoicing correspondence including email address

We are unable to accept invoice requests three weeks before the event, this is due to the time it takes to process invoices. All invoices must be paid by the event date in order for the delegates to attend, if payment has not been received by this date the delegates will be asked for payment on arrival at the college.
