Guidance for reviewers

The RCOG consults both professionals and users of O&G services on draft versions of our guidelines. This page provides guidance for reviewers.

See the list of documents currently out for consultation.

Reviewing Green-top Guidelines

  • Please critically appraise both the contents and presentation of the guideline. The guideline should be balanced, unbiased and clearly structured, and must contain up-to-date information.
  • Your comments should be constructive, with supporting references where possible, and should be submitted using the comments table provided. Detailed copyediting comments including typos are not expected, as the guideline will be edited before publication.
  • For details of how Green-top Guidelines are produced please see Clinical Governance Advice No. 1a, No. 1 b and No. 1c.
  • We prefer to receive your comments electronically using the comments table provided; please submit these by email to clinicaleffectiveness@rcog.org.uk
  • Please disclose any conflicts of interest, although these do not preclude you from reviewing the document.
  • We will forward your comments to the guideline developers. As well as the nominated peer reviewers, we also invite comments via the RCOG website.
  • While the Guidelines Committee takes ultimate responsibility for the published guideline, the names of developer(s) and peer reviewers will be included in the final document.
  • Peer reviewers may claim CPD credits for this work; find out more.
  • We will not consider any comments received after the deadline, unless notified and agreed in advance.

Please note that recommendations presented are provisional and do not constitute the final guidance on the topic, and may change after consultation.
