RCOG announcement: New TOG Editor-in-Chief in position

News 1 October 2015

The RCOG is pleased to announce that Mr Mark Roberts has taken up his position as the new Editor-in-Chief of The Obstetrician & Gynaecologist (TOG) from 1 October 2015, succeeding Mr Jason Waugh who has held the post for the last 6 years and been a member of the TOG Editorial Board for the last 11 years.

Mr Roberts is currently a Consultant Gynaecologist at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle-upon-Tyne. His special interests include gynaecological imaging, laparoscopic and robotic surgery (benign and oncology), outpatient gynaecology, colposcopy and education. Mr Roberts joined the TOG Editorial Board in 2012 as an Associate Editor and has taken on the roles of CPD Editor and App Reviews Editor.

Commenting on his new role, Mr Roberts said:

“Jason is going to be a hard act to follow. What is clear is that the future of TOG relies on the dedication and hard work of the Editorial Board, manuscript reviewers and RCOG editorial staff. TOG rates as one of the most appreciated member benefits and we will strive to maintain its appeal.”

Mr Waugh has been Editor-in-Chief of TOG since 2009, in which time he has introduced new article types, including Tips & Techniques where authors give practical tips for those working in obstetrics and gynaecology, and commentaries, which provide opinion, discussion or an international perspective on new concepts or controversies in clinical practice. He has also overseen the development of TOG online with the introduction of Early View articles and, recently, the launch of Virtual Issues that highlight top evidence-based articles in a given subspecialty and include an Editor’s Pick from a member of the TOG Editorial Board.

Speaking about his time on the journal, Mr Waugh said:

“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time as Editor-in-Chief of TOG. My fondest memories will be of the editorial teams I have had the pleasure of working with and I wish the journal every success in the future."
