Clinical guidelines in women’s health are now available through a new App launched today by the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG), making it the first royal college to launch such an App.
Green-top Guidelines provide healthcare professionals and patients with clinical information on the management of specific obstetric and gynaecological conditions.
The Green-top Guidelines App is for the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch iOS devices and provides easy access to updated guidelines. It enables users to search for specific words or terms, make notes and bookmark particular sections of guidelines relevant to their specialty.
In addition, to use the App there is no need for an internet connection, however, every time the App is online it automatically updates so the latest guidelines are available.
The App is aimed at obstetricians, gynaecologists, specialist trainees, midwives, nurses, general practitioners, professionals working in women’s healthcare and women seeking more information about their health and clinical care.
Sara Johnson, Executive Director of Quality and Knowledge at the RCOG, says:
“This new App is very exciting for our specialty. It provides up-to-date, easily accessible information when you are on the move. It includes all current Green-top Guidelines and automatically downloads revised content. We hope trainees will find it particularly useful as it enables users to make notes on specific guidelines relevant to their work while senior consultants will have the guidelines at their finger tips wherever they go.
“The RCOG is leading the way as we are the only royal college to offer an App with mobile access to full clinical guidelines.”

iOS was chosen for the initial release of the App as our research and our own web statistics suggest that around two thirds of members use Apple devices.
Our research has shown that members consider the Green-top Guidelines as the most useful and important information produced by the Royal College. They are used every day in clinical practice by our Fellows, Members and Trainees around the world.
