The RCOG Women’s Network is leading a project on the health of older women which aims to support the provision of information that women need to lead healthy lives post-menopause.
Why the health of older women?
Women in the UK are living longer. It is predicted that by 2030 a third of women will be living half their lives post-menopause. As the RCOG is a provider of health information for women, the Women’s Network believes it is important the College is well informed about the information needs of women at this stage of their lives. With this knowledge the RCOG can work alongside its partners to ensure these needs are met.
The aim of the project
This project aims to support the College’s Strategic plan by working with partners on specific projects in women’s health and by increasing public involvement in the RCOG. The longer-term aim is to empower women to take responsibility for their own health and wellbeing through the provision of accurate, up-to-date information on relevant health issues.
Specific objectives of the project
- To raise awareness of self-help and wellness-enhancing strategies among older women
- To facilitate provision of relevant materials for older women
- To improve the quality of life of older women in coping with the menopause and thereafter
Results from the survey of the health information needs of older women
As part of the project, women were surveyed to find out what their health information needs are. Many thanks to all those who took part in the survey. A report of the results and a summary of the findings can be found here.
