Maternity safety: share your views

Tell us what’s getting in the way of safer maternity care — and help shape how the College supports you.

Maternity safety is a key priority for the RCOG. We want to hear directly from our membership and maternity professionals about the barriers you face and what changes would make the biggest difference in your day-to-day practice.

This is part of our Have your say series – an ongoing listening exercise inviting clinicians and the public to share experiences and shape College priorities. Your insights will help us design better guidance, deliver targeted support, and advocate for meaningful change.

Current question: what are the barriers?

Question four is now live: What are the biggest barriers you experience when trying to implement obstetric guidance or guidelines related to maternity safety?

Your feedback will help us understand where support is most needed, and ensure our policy and resources reflect real-world clinical challenges.

What we've heard so far

In our previous question, we asked how the College could facilitate better communication and collaboration across maternity services. You told us:

  • Joint, multidisciplinary training sessions and events is a top priority
  • Clear, accessible guidance on clinical practice, staffing models, clinical escalation strategies, behavioural management and implementation support.
  • College support for a learning culture that promotes psychological safety.

Thank you to everyone who has shared their insight so far. Every response helps strengthen the obstetric voice and shape our plans and priorities for the year ahead.
