President

Dr Alison Wright is a practising Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist in London, and our new RCOG President.
Alison has been deeply committed to the work of the RCOG for many years.
She was on the RCOG Council for ten years, initially as an elected International Representative and then as Vice President.
As Vice President of the RCOG, she helped develop Green-top guidelines and patient information. She founded and led the RCOG’s ‘Supporting our Doctors’ programme and was the Clinical Representative on the RCOG’s Women’s Network.
Subsequently, she was a National Specialty Adviser in Obstetrics for NHS England, where she led on personalised care and informed choice, working with Nadine Montgomery and others to improve consent processes in maternity care.
She later succeeded Baroness Cumberlege as Chair of the maternity and neonatal Stakeholder Council, bringing together representatives from pregnancy charities and bereaved families.
Alison sits on the General Medical Council (GMC), where she has worked on updating recommendations for decision making and consent and on their endeavours to tackle racial bias in referrals to the GMC.
Global health, especially in poorly resourced settings, has always been central to Alison’s vision and she has worked voluntarily on charity funded projects in rural Asia. She currently advises WHO and FIGO on post-partum haemorrhage (PPH) and other aspects of global women’s health and was the lead author on the recent International Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology’s supplement on PPH and childbirth.
She sits on the executive steering group which brings together FIGO, WHO and ICM, overseeing consolidated global guidelines. She is committed to improving maternity and gynaecology services by supporting doctors, collaboration, innovation, high quality training and involving women and their families in their care at every level.
