Vice President for Education

Melanie Tipples has been a Consultant at St Richard’s Hospital, Chichester since 2007 and has clinical interests in gynaeoncology, minimal access surgery and ultrasound.
She has been instrumental in developing a nationally recognised day-case hysterectomy service for her trust and is cancer unit lead and diagnostic service lead. Working with the Getting It Right First Time team at NHS England, she has contributed to the development of the Best Practice Day Case Hysterectomy guide.
Since 2018, Melanie has been Head of School in Obstetrics and Gynaecology for Kent, Surrey and Sussex. Alongside expanding the number of training posts, she has led the development of the school to include sub-speciality training, academic training and faculty of sexual and reproductive health posts. In 2024, the school hosted the largest RCOG National Trainees Conference in Brighton.
At the RCOG, Melanie has been the Council Fellows’ Representative for Kent, Surrey and Sussex since 2022. She chairs the Speciality Education Advisory Committee, sits on the accreditation board and is a senior examiner for the MRCOG. Melanie has also served on committees supporting the question writing, development and delivery of the MRCOG exam. Melanie is Co-Chair of the simulation work stream for the RCOG Surgical Skills Project. Melanie was also President of the Obstetrics and Gynaecology section of the Royal Society and Medicine in 2017.
Outside of work, Melanie enjoys a busy family life with her husband, their four children and their three dogs.
