Andrew Leather qualified as a doctor in 1985 and after initially starting training as a General Practitioner, then undertook specialty training in obstetrics and gynaecology.
Andrew was appointed a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist in Ipswich in 2001 with a special interest in urogynaecology and minimal access surgery.
In addition to his clinical roles and having been lead for urogynaecology, Andrew also held various leadership positions within his own trust, including College Tutor, Labour Ward Lead, Trust Appraiser and then for six years Clinical Director for Women’s Health, Paediatrics and Breast Surgery.
Andrew has been actively involved with the RCOG for over 13 years, contributing through guidelines, examinations and educational committees and for the last six years sitting on Council as Fellows’ Representative for the East of England, when he also represented the College Fellows as an active member on the Finance and General Purposes Committee.
Always a strong advocate for evidence-based medicine, clinical governance and team working, Andrew is also well known as a respected medicolegal expert. He cares passionately about the RCOG and all its members and is committed to advancing women’s healthcare, supporting doctors, improving maternity safety and surgical training, and upholding high standards in education and clinical practice both nationally and internationally.
