Concessions and special circumstances

How the College deals with requests for concessions or special circumstances with regard to membership subscription fees.

Reduced fee for Member elects

The College recognises the hardship and financial pressures on newly qualified Members. For this reason, the College has agreed to the introduction of a reduced fee for new Members resident in the UK* or Republic of Ireland.

In order to make membership and advanced training fees more manageable for post-MRCOG trainees, from January 2017, a 20% discount on the full UK membership rate will automatically be applied for new Members who have passed the MRCOG from November 2016.

The discount will only be available for the first two years of membership.

UK* member elects

The requirements are:

  • You must be resident in the UK* or Republic of Ireland
  • You must still be training
  • You must have a UK bank account with the facility to set up a Direct Debit

*UK includes those resident in the Channel Islands, Isle of Man, Gibraltar and HM British Armed Forces

To receive this rate you’ll be directed to pay your first subscription instalment fee by credit/debit card or cheque. Subsequent payments will be collected via Direct Debit.

Your membership fees are renewed annually on 31 January each year. When your subscription comes up for renewal in January 2018, payments will be collected from your designated bank account in quarterly instalments from 31 January. We’ll send you a membership renewal pack in November/December each year to remind you how much will be due.

Working part-time

We do not currently offer concessionary rates for members working part time. However, if you are suffering financial difficulty please contact the Membership Department (membership@rcog.org.uk) in writing.

Special circumstances

The College can offer a reduction in annual subscriptions under special circumstances. Requests for reductions must be made in writing to the Membership Department by 31 March of the year for which you wish to pay a reduced fee. This email/letter must provide the reasons for the request. The following may apply:

** Reduction up to £120 applied upon receipt of your annual CPD certificate prior to 31 March of the year for which you wish to pay a reduced fee 

Please note that those on a concessionary rate will only receive the RCOG membership magazine O&G along with the monthly e-newsletter O&G news and must subscribe separately to The Obstetrician & Gynaecologist.  

  • You will be required to confirm your circumstances on an annual basis.
  • Documentary evidence of the concessionary circumstances may be required.
  • Reductions cannot be applied retrospectively
