Concessions and special circumstances

How the College deals with requests for concessions or special circumstances with regard to membership subscription fees.


Reduced fee for Member elects

The College recognises the hardship and financial pressures on newly qualified Members. For this reason, new Members benefit from a reduced annual subscription for the first 2 years of membership if resident in the UK* or Republic of Ireland.

The reduced subscription is based on a 20% discount on the full UK membership rate.

Please note: The discount will only be available for the first 2 years of membership.


UK* and ROI Member elects

The requirements are:

  • You must be resident in the UK* or Republic of Ireland
  • You must still be training
  • You must have a UK bank account with the facility to set up a Direct Debit

*UK includes those resident in the Channel Islands, Isle of Man, Gibraltar and HM British Armed Forces

To receive this rate you’ll be directed to pay your first subscription instalment fee by credit/debit card or cheque. Subsequent payments will be collected via Direct Debit.

Subscription period 2020
Total amount payable £480.00 including the discount (Annual UK rate is £600.00)
1st instalment by credit/debit card or cheque
Subsequent instalments by Direct Debit £120.00 x 3


New Members working less than full time (LTFT)

If you are a new Member within your first 2 years of membership and working the equivalent of less than a full time role you may be eligible for a further discount in addition to the discounted annual fee.

If you are working 80% or less of a full time contract you can claim an additional 25% discount on the annual new Member fee of £480.00. This will mean an annual subscription of £360.00.

Please note: You must apply for this additional discount directly with the Membership Team, in writing, at To qualify, the Membership Team must receive your application for  the discount no later than 31 March in the subscription year. For example, to qualify for the 2020 annual subscription year we must receive your request by 31 March 2020. After this date you will be charged the annual new member fee of £480.00.

Your membership fees are renewed annually on 31 January each year.

When your subscription comes up for renewal in January 2020, payments will be collected from your designated bank account in quarterly instalments from 31 January.

We'll send you a membership renewal pack in November/December each year to remind you how much will be due.


Working part-time

We do not currently offer concessionary rates for members working part time.

However, if you are suffering financial difficulty please contact the Membership Department ( in writing.


Special circumstances

The College can offer a reduction in annual subscriptions under special circumstances.

Requests for reductions must be made in writing to the Membership Department by 31 March of the year for which you wish to pay a reduced fee.

Your email/letter must provide the reasons for the request.

The following may apply:

  UK* & Republic of Ireland

International rate
Members working wholly outside the field of obstetrics and/or gynaecology including genitourinary medicine and sexual health  £165 £57
Members taking a career break for 12 months or more as study leave, or who are unemployed, or on long term sickness £165 £57
Members on parental leave £165 £57

Please note that those on a concessionary rate will only receive the RCOG membership magazine O&G along with the monthly e-newsletter O&G News and must subscribe separately to The Obstetrician & Gynaecologist.  

  • You will be required to confirm your circumstances on an annual basis.
  • Documentary evidence of the concessionary circumstances may be required.
  • Reductions cannot be applied retrospectively
