Formalities before the ceremony

Prior to the ceremony you will be required to confirm your attendance and provide details of your current principal post, which will be include in the programme. You will also be required to pay a Fellows’ registration fee.

This information can be provided direct to the Membership team by one of the below methods:

Fellows’ subscription fee

As a Fellow your annual subscription dues will remain the same. However, before we are able to confirm your elevation to Fellowship, the College requires that any outstanding subscription payments are settled in advance.

Gown hire

A College gown should be worn for the ceremony and these will be supplied on the day by Messrs Ede & Ravenscroft. Fellows can save £5 on gown hire if you book online 21 days before the ceremony. View the Ede & Ravenscroft gown hire form (PDF 705kb) for more information.

An accredited photographer will be in attendance for private photographs. A framing service for certificates, along with a DVD recording of the day will also be available for purchase. We encourage members to submit an order online in advance of the ceremony via the Success Photography website.

The day of the admission ceremony

You are advised to arrive at least an hour before your scheduled ceremony in order to collect your robe, arrange photographs and enjoy your time at the College with your colleagues, family and friends.

You will then be called to be seated in the Nuffield Hall 15 minutes before the start of the ceremony (it may not be possible to admit you if you are late).

During the ceremony each Fellow will be called to the main platform by a member of Council where they will be presented with their certificate by the President.

An ‘on the stage’ photograph will be taken of every new Fellow with the President during the Ceremony, which can be purchased direct from Success Photography.

All Fellows and their guests are warmly invited to attend a drinks and canapés reception in the Reception Hall following the ceremony.

College ties and insignia will be on sale in the reception foyer.

Not able to attend the ceremony?

If you reside within the British Isles and are not able to attend you must indicate your reason for not attending no later than 10 days before the ceremony. Please email if this is the case.

* Your elevation to the Fellowship will be deferred until the next available meeting of Council if you haven’t confirmed your acceptance to the Fellowship along with your remittance by the specified time. You also will not be eligible to use the designatory letters FRCOG until your formal admission to the Fellowship.
