Women and people who have been pregnant, fathers, partners, family members, friends, other support people and maternity workforce invited to contribute to the call for evidence.
Baroness Amos’ interim report (published December 2025) highlighted the urgent need for improvement to ensure babies, women and families receive high quality and compassionate maternity care, and the tragic outcomes when this is not the case. For years, maternity units have had too few staff, too little time for training and lacked modern equipment and facilities, resulting in women and babies being harmed and staff leaving the workforce.
The views and experiences of women, partners, families and staff are vital to informing the development of national recommendations to drive improvements in maternity and neonatal care across England and reduce inequalities in service delivery.

- Information on how staff can contribute is being shared through NHS Trusts. Those who no longer work in the maternity or neonatal pathway or in an NHS Trust can contact matneoinvestigation@dhsc.gov.uk
Sharing personal, sometimes traumatic, experiences can be very difficult. Individuals should consider if it is the right thing for them to do personally. The charities Sands, Tommy’s and the Maternal Mental Health Alliance all offer incredible support. Our membership can also access a range of support and wellbeing resources on our website here.
The College is committed to participating the National Maternity and Neonatal Investigation to support the delivery of a safer service, improved outcomes for women and babies and a better-supported workforce. It is essential the review moves at pace and makes full use of existing evidence.
