Dr Alison Wright has been elected as the next President of the RCOG and will take up office in December 2025.
Commenting on her appointment, Dr Alison Wright, said:
"I am beyond delighted to have been elected to the esteemed position of President of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. The support I have received from colleagues around the UK, Ireland, and globally, has been incredible.
This is a huge honour, and with that, comes a huge responsibility, to serve the Members and Fellows of this College, and to improve women’s health and maternity care in the UK and around the world. I take the responsibility very seriously, and look forward to rising to the challenge.”

Dr Alison Wright was made President-elect of the RCOG following a vote open to UK and Ireland Fellows and Members. Alison will become the 33rd President since the College was founded in 1929.
Alison will take up her appointment at the Admission Ceremony for new RCOG Officers on Friday 12 December 2025. New Vice Presidents will be elected in September and will take office in December. The term of office for the RCOG President and Vice Presidents is three years.
Dr Alison Wright is a senior Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, working in London.
As a Vice President of the RCOG, Dr Wright set up and led the ‘Supporting Our Doctors’ initiative, providing practical support and help to Members and Fellows. She transformed the RCOG’s job planning processes, to promote greater fairness and transparency, and led a review of membership benefits, to maximise the value of College membership to Members and Fellows.
Dr Wright subsequently served as NHS England’s National Specialty Adviser in Obstetrics for three years. In that role, she advised on national maternity policy, initially in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, and latterly, with a focus on personalised care and cultural transformation in maternity and neonatal services. She developed leadership programmes, enhancing collaboration between Obstetricians, Midwives, Neonatologists and operational managers, and tailored leadership programmes for Trust Boards.
Internationally, she is a clinical advisor to FIGO, sits on various WHO guideline groups, and currently leads an International Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (IJOG) supplement of best practice papers, related to childbirth and PPH.
Dr Wright is passionately committed to amplifying the voices of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, to ensure the RCOG best serves its Members, Fellows, and the women we care for.
