Dear colleagues,
I am honoured to be writing to you for the first time as the new President of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. It is a privilege to have been elected to this important role and one that I take extremely seriously.
Over the next three years, I am committed to meeting and listening to as many of our Fellows and Members as possible, to understand your experiences and how best the College can support you. I firmly believe that the most effective way to improve maternity safety and women’s health is by supporting you, the obstetricians and gynaecologists delivering that care, wherever you are in the world and at every stage of your career.
Strengthening the College’s support for our doctors will be one of the key pillars of my presidency, alongside modernising maternity and gynaecology care, and building bridges nationally and internationally. Together, these three pillars will deliver improved outcomes for women around the world.
As I commence my first year as President, I do so with a brilliant team of Vice Presidents, Sherif Abdel-Fattah, Jenny Barber, Sujeewa Fernando, Andrew Leather and Melanie Tipples, each of whom will bring incredible expertise, passion and commitment to their roles and to driving progress over the next three years.
I am genuinely optimistic about the future of our specialty. Partly because I’m naturally a ‘glass half full’ person, but more importantly because I see the energy, commitment, and dedication that you – our Fellows and Members bring every day. By working together and truly listening to women and families, I know we have the solutions to transform maternity services and women’s health.
I also offer my thanks to our past President, Ranee Thakar, and her team of Vice Presidents, for leaving such strong foundations on which we will continue to build.
In the new year you’ll be able to read more about my vision for the next three years in my first President blog.
I look forward to working alongside you to achieve meaningful change.
