To ensure our portfolio of courses, meetings and conferences continues to meet the evolving needs of O&G clinicians, we need your energy, ideas and expertise.  

RCOG aims to be the global leaders in obstetrics and gynaecology education, delivering world-class, inclusive and impactful events and courses that support clinicians at every stage of their career and enhancing women’s health worldwide. 

An honorary role with RCOG Events offers the opportunity to contribute your experience and expertise, helping to shape the content and delivery of courses, workshops and meetings. Convenors play a vital support role in ensuring our courses and events reflect current clinical best practice and, where appropriate, align to the RCOG training curriculum. You will work alongside committed faculty colleagues to help guide the content and delivery of high-quality, impactful events that support members at every stage of their careers.

Role description

Course Convenor - Training the Trainer  

  • Honorary Director of Events
  • Honorary Deputy Director of Events 

May 2026 – May 2029 

The Convenor will provide clinical leadership for the College’s ‘Training the Trainer’ course, which currently runs as an in-person course that takes place up to twice a year at the College in London.

The course is currently undergoing significant redevelopment, and the Course Convenor will be supported by the Events Team and Events Board, to redevelop the course in preparation for the pilot in November 2026.  

The Convenor reports into the Director and Lead Convenor for Management and Leadership Courses and will work alongside a Deputy Convenor to ensure content is kept up to date, make sure the course stays aligned with the Events Board’s strategic objectives, and recruit and support faculty to deliver the course.   

  • Regularly review feedback, make improvements where needed and ensure the course remains aligned with the curriculum and learners’ needs
  • Where appropriate, identify and arrange subject matter experts to provide additional high-quality content for the courses
  • Monitor output from the RCOG Curriculum Committee to ensure that any updates are reflected in the course
  • Work with RCOG colleagues in the Events Team to plan the yearly delivery cycle of the course to ensure timeframes, milestones and targets are met
  • Support the development of a high-quality faculty pool with faculty who model the College’s values and behaviours

Convenors will be given an induction to ensure they are fully briefed on their role and have access to all relevant event information. RCOG events staff will provide ongoing strategic, learning design, event management and administrative support.

This is an important role within the College. Accordingly, the time commitment required will be around six to eight days per yearConvenors will serve an initial term of three years. 

The tenure of this role is three years but may be renewed subject to further review. 

This role description reflects the present requirements of the post. The role will be subject to ongoing evaluation to ensure it continues to meet the requirements of the College. 

Person specification

You should be passionate about medical education and committed to supporting learners and trainees. You should be empathetic, tactful and able to deal with sensitive and confidential issues as well as strong organisational and administrative skills.

You will need: 

  • to hold an FRCOG/MRCOG qualification
  • to be based in the UK
  • an understanding of the RCOG training curriculum
  • to be registered with a licence to practise with GMC, in good standing 
  • experience of developing courses or education programmes 
  • educational supervisor or College tutor experience
  • a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion in practice and evidence of relevant training  

Ideally, you will also have: 

  • previous experience as an RCOG committee member; or
  • experience in an RCOG events faculty member, organiser or convenor role 

As an ambassador of RCOG, our convenors are expected to demonstrate our values and to be familiar with the RCOG standards and codes of conduct.

Committee Chair/Member/Course Convenors and Organisers

If within your committee role or work as course convenor or organiser you gain knowledge which enhances patient care or leadership and technical skills (including, for example, giving presentations, teaching sessions or mock examining) credits can be claimed as an ‘Experiential Learning Event’.

CPD users can now freely select and record the number of credits for all their CPD activities. For Experiential Learning Events, a Reflection is required to claim the selected credits. In addition, 1 or 2 credits can be claimed for an action following the learning (1 credit for a simple action, 2 credits for a complex action). To claim credits for an action, the individual needs to demonstrate how they have applied their learning to their practice, the service they provide and/or the potential impact of the learning.

For those who prefer to follow RCOG recommendations, the CPD Framework still provides a suggested number of credits that can be claimed for different CPD activities.
